Painting of Garrow’s Seaside Property

The spectacular views of William Garrow’s seaside property in the Kent village of Pegwell have been captured by artists in famous paintings. The white chalk cliffs that border the property on Pegwell Bay drop straight down to the water’s edge. As the tide goes out, the water recedes exposing a beach at the bottom of the cliffs. Visitors are drawn to explore the nooks and crannies of the cliffs, and the shells, rocks and underwater plants that inhabit the ocean’s edge. Third Series of Garrow’s Law Rumoured..

It looks like there will be another series of Garrow’s Law, but once again it will be just four episodes long!

Although there doesn’t appear to be any official confirmation this is still good news for fans of the drama. One would imagine that more of Garrow’s unusual personal life and trailblazing public performances will make for another thoroughly enjoyable series.

Garrow’s Law – series 2 DVD released

The second series of BBC TV’s Garrow’s Law is now available on DVD.

Focusing heavily on Garrow’s relationship with Sarah, this series portrays Garrow as a man regularly searching his conscience as he grapples with the difficult social, legal and political issues of his time. The Rehabilitation of William Garrow

It is interesting to consider how William Garrow has returned to prominence – much of this to do with the success of the prime-time BBC 1 series of 2010 (and now Series Two). The mystery about why he was airbrushed from the general accounts of the development of English law is something of a whodunnit in itself. Maybe Garrow’s face didn’t fit, he was from the wrong side of the tracks socially speaking, or was it his later defection to the Establishment and relative failure as a politician compared to his early success as a radical lawyer? Maybe there is a lesson or moral here – stick to what you are good at.

Garrow’s Law Wins Prestigious RTS Award

Garrow’s Law has been rewarded for so successfully bringing the previously unknown tale of William Garrow to a wide audience. In judging the prize for best history programme the Royal Television Society reported:

“The jury were very impressed by the accessible telling of such a good ‘unknown’ dramatic story based on strong historical research.” (full awards listing).

A second series now seems inevitable, and perhaps Twenty Twenty Television will investigate Garrow’s later achievements and intrigues?

The Arts and Humanities Council has also rightly claimed this as a success after funding the Old Bailey Proceedings Online – which was one of the key research sources for the series: full story.
